How many hours do you need?
Virginia Real Estate Board requirements for continuing education (CE) and post-license education (PLE). Each square is one credit hour. Open squares are hours you can fill with any real estate related course.
Requirements as of October 2026 and subject to change. For the latest, check the Virginia Real Estate Board.
Credit from another state
Brokers and experienced salespersons can apply up to 5 hours of approved continuing education taken in another state. You must hold a current real estate license there and have completed the courses during your current two-year license term. These hours count only toward Real Estate Related Subjects (electives). You’ll send the Board a copy of your out-of-state license and a certificate for each course.
See the Board’s CE pageExtra hours? Carry them over
If you finished all your required hours in your previous license term (16 for salespersons, 24 for brokers) and took extra hours in the last six months of that term, you may be able to carry those extra hours into your current term.
